The computer does nothing when the power button is pressed.
Your computer will not turn on without the cord plugged in. Plug your computer into a power outlet. If the light turns on, your computer is charging. Charge your computer for at least 30 minutes and see if it turns on.
If this does not work, you may need to recover your computer using a Mac or a PC and a flashdrive or an SD card. Install and open Google Chrome and the recovery app on your other device. Click “Get started” and select a model from a list. Click “continue.” Insert the flashdrive or SD card into your Mac or PC, and choose the flashdrive or SD card in the dropdown menu. Click “continue” and “create now.” Once a message appears saying your recovery media is ready, remove the flashdrive or SD card from your computer. Open up your Pixelbook, hold Esc + Refresh, press power. Once a message comes on the screen, remove your fingers from Esc + Refresh. Insert the flash drive or SD card, and follow the instructions on the screen.
Try powering on your computer. If this does not work, replace the battery.
If nothing else works, the motherboard may be faulty. Use this guide to replace the motherboard.
Your computer will turn on, but will not hold a charge.
If your computer does not charge, make sure the outlet is working. Unplug the cord from your computer and the outlet and replug it into your computer, then the outlet. If the light on the charging cord glows, your cord is receiving charge. Leave your laptop to charge for thirty minutes, and see if it works. If the cord is not receiving charge, double check the outlet to see if it is correctly plugged in. If it still does not light up, you may need to replace the charging port or the power cord.
First, try resetting your laptop with a hard reset. Hold down reset+power to restart your computer. Leave your laptop to charge for thirty minutes, and check back to see if it works.
If your battery still will not charge, you can check your battery’s health by pressing ctrl+alt+t to open a crosh window. Type battery_test 30 into the opened window. If your battery health is significantly lower than 100% (use your best judgement), you should replace your battery.
The battery charges, but dies faster than it should.
Try adjusting your settings to make your battery lasts longer. Keep your brightness at 50%, make sure your Wi-Fi signal is strong, and close your browser extensions. To delete an unnecessary extension, go to Launcher at the bottom of your screen, click on “app list”, right click on the app, and select “Remove from chrome”.
If your battery health is near 100%, check your battery discharge rate by typing battery_test 60 into the crosh window. If your battery discharge rate is more than the 15-20% range, try adjusting your settings to make your battery last longer. The sound is unclear, and static can be heard along with the audio.
If the sound coming out of your computer’s speakers is distorted, first try restarting your computer. If this does not help, try to hard reset your computer by pressing the refresh+power buttons.
Go to the start menu search bar and search for “Device Manager”. Once there, look for “Sound, video, and game controllers” in the list of devices. Right click on your audio device and select “Update Driver Software” and “Automatically Search for Updates”. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet for the update to be successful.
The computer’s speakers sound perfect, but the headphone jack isn’t working. First, try using a different set of headphones. If the headphone jack still does not work, then the jack may be broken. This can be fixed by replacing the sound card because the headphone jack is built into the card.
When trying to use the touchpad, it does not move the cursor and/or does not click.
Check to make sure the computer has not crashed by giving it other commands. Try pressing ctrl+alt+delete at the same time to bring up the Task Manager. If nothing happens, try restarting the computer and see if the touchpad responds once it has rebooted.
If possible, find a USB mouse to use while navigating through these next steps. If a mouse is not available, you can use the keyboard (tab, arrow keys, and Enter) to navigate.
First, go to the search bar in the start menu and type “Change Mouse Settings”. Under the “Properties” section, look for “touchpad settings” and make sure the touchpad is enabled. Adjust any other settings to your liking and press “Apply.” Now try testing the touchpad.
