Introduction
You will need to support the tiller during this process. Use jack stands, large pieces of wood, or other strong supports. Rock the tiller back and forth on its supports before beginning to ensure that it won’t fall or tip over during repairs. Make sure you can still remove the right-side tines while the tiller is supported.
Drain the oil before you begin this procedure. Any remaining oil will spill out when you remove the seal. Be ready to contain any spillage.
You will need to refill the engine oil after this procedure. The recommended oil is 10W-30.

Remove the oil seal

- If you did not drain the oil already, oil may start to leak out as soon as you insert the pick. Make sure you have a container ready to contain the spillage.
- Pry the seal out of the reduction case, taking care not to mar the aluminum reduction case.
- It may take significant force to pry out the seal. It’s rigid and fits very tightly in the reduction case.
