What You Need to Get Started
You’ll need two things to take advantage of all the business intelligence, metrics, and reports from Google Analytics.
- A Squarespace website that’s connected to a domain. A Google Analytics account. If you need help creating a Google Analytics account, you can follow the instructions in this article.
Create a Google Analytics Tracking ID for Your Website
You’ll need to create and make a note of your Google Analytics tracking ID before you can integrate Google Analytics into your Squarespace website.
After signing into your Google Analytics account, select the Admin icon at the bottom of the left menu.
Now select Create Property.
Type in a Property Name (e.g., the name of your website or the website’s URL) and select Show Advanced Options.
Activate the toggle switch to Create a Universal Analytics property.
Next, enter in the URL to your website (include the “www”), and select Create a Universal Analytics property only.
Your business information is next. Select the Next button and enter all the details.
Once you’ve entered all your business information, select the Create button.
You now have a Tracking ID from Google Analytics! It will look like this: UA-999999999-0. Select and copy your Tracking ID to the clipboard.
Now you’re ready to add the Tracking ID to your Squarespace website.
Connecting Your Squarespace Website to Google Analytics
The good news is that Squarespace provides a built-in integration with Google Analytics, so you don’t have to add any code to your site. Follow the steps below to add your Google Analytics Tracking ID to your Squarespace site.
From your Squarespace site’s dashboard, choose Settings.
Next, select Advanced.
Select External API Keys.
Paste your site’s Tracking ID into the field marked Google Analytics Account Number.
Select the Save button.
Note: It can take a day or two for your site’s statistics to show up in your Google Analytics dashboard, although relevant data will usually become available within a couple hours.
