Start by flipping the mouse over to view the flat side of the mouse.
Remove the mouse feet to reveal the screws holding the bottom and top part of the mouse together.

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the mouse together.
Once the screws are removed, pull the mouse apart by holding the top and bottom pieces.
The mouse will be pulled into two pieces: the top (rounded part) and bottom (flat part).

After the mouse has been pulled apart, the flex cable will be visible. This must be removed before continuing.
To remove the flex cable, gently pull the cable clip until it becomes unlatched.

Remove the motherboard. The motherboard is mounted on the mouse, so gently remove by simply pulling the motherboard from within the mouse.

Once the motherboard is removed, the optical sensor will be fully exposed. This is the piece that is causing the lag in the mouse.
The optical sensor is dirty, and needs to be gently cleaned with a Q-tip or soft cloth dipped in 90% isopropyl alcohol.
