  • Carefully remove the slides from the trombone.
  • If the slides are completely stuck, wiggle the slides from side to side while pulling it out of the trombone.

  • Clean each slide using a paper towel or cloth.
  • This will remove any friction the slides may have with the trombone.

  • Check to see if the tuning slides are parallel with their corresponding parts.
  • This can be done simply by aligning the slides against the trombone.

  • If the slides are parallel, skip to step six. If not, attach each individual slide to the trombone and push/pull in the direction in which it would be parallel.
  • This will straighten the warped slides back into place.
  • Warped slides can be very difficult to move when attached to the trombone.

  • Check to see if the slides are align once more.
  • Keep repeating step 4 if the slides are not lined up yet.

  • Apply tuning slide grease to each slide.
  • Make sure each slide only gets a thin layer of grease. Too much grease could cause friction when attached to the trombone.

  • Attach the slides back to the trombone.
  • Position the slides to your liking and enjoy playing!
