Introduction

You’ll need:

• NVME M.2 SSD - I used samsung 970 EVO Plus 250 GB NVME M.2Sintech Adapter kit e.g. https://mackabler.dk/ngff-m2-pcie-ssd-ko...Alternatively you may use OWC SSD, which does not require adapter - see https://www.owcdigital.com/products/aura....However OWC ssds are slower than the newest Samsung SSDs.Recovery USB disk with OSX - ref https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT201372 I used Catalina.

Step 1

              Backup Machine               

• First, make a time machine backup of the Mac to an external USB disk.

              Recovery Mode               

• Boot in recovery mode (power + alt) to start from recovery disk.

              Format SSD               

• Then format the new SSD in Disk Utility (erase + first aid).

              Shutdown Mac               

• Shutdown down mac, remove back plate, disconnect battery.

              Install SSD               

• Then install new SSD in M2 enclosure and swap it with old SSD.

              Boot Machine

              Mount External USB               

• Mount external USB disk from (2).

              Restore Backup               

• Finally, restore time machine backup from (2) to new SSD.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
