Introduction

Instead of throwing your knit blanket away or storing it in a closet because it has a hole, you can quickly repair it with this simple guide. All you need is yarn, a wool needle, scissors, and good lighting!

Basic sewing knowledge is needed for this repair.

What you need

Step 1

How to Mend a Hole in a Knit Blanket
  • Thread the wool needle by inserting the yarn through the needle’s eye.
  • Tie a knot at the end of the yarn that faces away from the needle’s point. You’ll leave the other end of the yarn alone and it will hang freely. That is ok!
  • Insert the needle in the back of the blanket and pull until the knot stops you from pulling further.
  • You will be making zig-zag stitches.

Step 4

  • To make a knot to secure the yarn, insert the needle through any stitch to create a loop.
  • Once you have a loop, insert the needle through the loop and pull until you have a knot. Repeat one more time.
  • Cut the remaining yarn close to the knot (but not too close), and now your hole is closed and secure.
