There are two primary methods for opening images in Adobe Photoshop. You can open the file on its own for editing, or you can open a file to include as a layer in an image you already have open. Editing an image by itself

To use the image with its existing dimensions, follow the steps below.

  • Select File from the menu bar.
  • Select Open.
  • Locate and select the file from File Explorer or Finder.
  • Select Open.

Adding an image to an existing project

To add a new image to your existing project in the form of a layer, follow the steps below.

  • Make sure your project is open.
  • Select File from the menu bar.
  • Select Place Embedded.
  • Locate and select the file from File Explorer or Finder.
  • Select Open.
  • Press the Enter key to rasterize the image, creating a layer in your project.
