Macbook Pro 2018, 15” (I presuming no difference in operation).

The Macbook fires up as soon as the touchbar power button is pressed. Depressing all ⇧⌃⌥⎋ together, or depressing ⇧⌃⌥ and then adding ⎋ makes no difference. Depressing! ,-)

Nope. Doesn’t work on a 2018 MacBook Pro with Touchbar. Pressing any key boots up the computer and holding Command-Option-P-R doesn’t have any effect as it did on previous models.

Yep, new macbooks behave terribly on boot. It’s probably part of the problem. Did anyone ask for this “start on lid open” BS?

SOlution: do not press the right shift key!!!! Press all the keys on the left side of the keyboard including the Shift key- otherwise it will power on your MAc normally. IF you do the left side it wont power - do this for 10 sec then release and then power on normally- this will reset the SMC on touch bar MBP
