Screen displays error message “Chrome OS is missing or damaged."

You may need to complete a recovery on your Chromebox. A USB stick or SD card is required for recovery. First, turn off your Chromebox. Then using a paper clip, press and hold the recovery button. Press power button to turn Chromebox back on, then release recovery button when display returns. Insert USB stick or SD card and follow on-screen instructions to recover device.

Display will not respond to commands.

A powerwash will completely reset your Chrome settings, so be sure to save important files to Google Drive or other cloud storage. To complete a powerwash, access settings>advanced settings>powerwash>restart. Re-enter your Google account information after restart.

To see a list of your current extensions, open your Chrome Menu in the toolbar, and select More Tools. Choose the option for extensions, and view current extensions; a list of active extensions will appear and indicate whether they are enabled or disabled. Uncheck boxes to disable extensions to test whether they are causing the freezing, and delete extension if it is causing the freezing.

Device giving “Out of Memory” error message during downloads

Deleting unnecessary files from Chromebox (save to Google Drive or other Cloud device) and clearing browsing data and download history will free memory. It is also an option to upgrade the memory on your device. An extra stick of DDR3 RAM can be inserted in one of two memory slots inside of device. Additionally, the existing storage can be replaced with a higher capacity memory module. Chromebox will not respond to power button and screen is black.

The battery might be discharged. Charge the Chromebox for at least ten minutes (up to 24 hours) and attempt to power on your device.

If your device is not powering on, it is possible that you need to replace your power button board. Directions for replacement can be found here: [http://|Power Button Board Replacement Guide]

Insert a paper clip into reset hole while holding the power button. Press Ctrl+D. Press recovery button with the paper clip again. The device should reboot and display a red exclamation point. Press Ctrl+D to reboot and begin transition to developer mode which will clear all local data (takes approximately 10 minutes).

Your device might not be receiving a charge because of a faulty or broken power connector cable. Directions for replacing your power connector cable can be found here: [http://|Power Connector Cable Replacement Guide]

Screen Displays “Aw, Snap!” error message.

Make sure your device is connected to an active WiFi or wired network and reload page. Check that your ethernet cable is not damaged and that your device’s rear i/o bracket is not bent or damaged. Your device may have run out of memory, and can’t load the site while also running your apps, extensions, and programs. To free up memory, close all tabs except for the one that is displaying the error message. Quit all other apps or programs that are running, and pause any app or file downloads. Uninstall unnecessary extensions from Chrome. At the top right, click More More> More Tools>Extensions. On extensions you don’t use, click Remove. Try reloading the tab with the error message.
