The computer will not respond or power up.

If your computer is not powering up while the power adapter is connected, check to see if there is a charging indicator light on both the adapter and your computer. If there is not light, you may have a faulty adapter and should consider purchasing a replacement. Check all of the plug-in points for the adapter. There are four points in question on the cord: the wall plug, the transformer (black box on cord) plug both the female and male end, and the plug for the computer power jack. Make sure that they are not missing any prongs or damaged in any way.

If the computer only powers up when connected to the power adapter, your battery is faulty. The temperature of the battery is also a tell sign that the battery is damaged. The battery is located to the right of the hard drive. To remove the battery without too much effort, use a pry tool to gently lift the edge of the battery. This step ensures that the surrounding components remain in tact. For a more in depth instructions, a link to the repair guide is accessible here.

Your computer shows an error message when starting and will not load your operating system.

Over time hard drives can have issues due to normal wear and tear. If your computer is showing an error message when starting up or only showing the boot menu, either your operating system needs to be repaired or your hard drive is faulty. The first step is to repair the Windows operating system. This can be done by with the use of a Windows DVD or a flash drive with a copy of the operating system you have. Boot to your DVD or flash drive and choose “Startup Repair”. If your device is still not booting up to the operating system, then you may have to replace your hard drive.

Laptop takes a much longer time than normal to boot or seems to be struggling/taking a long time to complete basic operations during normal use.

If your computer is taking a longer time than normal to boot up and has recently been crashing during normal use, especially during memory intensive tasks, you do not have enough RAM or the current RAM is faulty. Replace or install RAM into your computer.

The screen is not showing the normal images and shows multicolored spots/sections.

If your computer is exhibiting multicolored spots/sections that look like cracks in glass, your display is broken and needs to be replaced. In order to gain access to the display screen the plastic boarders will have to be removed. The steps on how to remove these boarders and what tools are needed reside within the display assembly replacement link.

While during normal usage, your computer shuts off with a message along the lines of “Your Device is too hot” or shuts off without any notification.

If your fan(s) seem like they are having to run much faster than normal or are running way too slowly, there may be dust or other particles stuck in your computer’s ventilation system. To fix this, open the back of the device and carefully blow the particles out of the vents and off of the fans with a compressed air duster.

If your fans are not turning on no matter how hot your computer is getting, they may be faulty. The cooling fan is an important component within this device. Devices such as the HP EliteBook 745 G2 do not operate properly when subjected to overly-moderate temperatures. If this component is not functioning properly the HP EliteBook could overheat and cause damage to vital circuitry. This could lead to the device shutting off in the middle of important tasks. If you are experiencing difficulties replacing this part, the fan replacement guide will help you along the way.

Your computer cannot connect to a wireless network or has a much weaker connection than usual.

If your computer has suddenly lost the ability to connect to a wireless network or has a much weaker connection than usual, your wireless card may be faulty or may not be connected to the internal antenna. Check to make sure the two small wires running the length of your computer are firmly connected to the wireless card. If that does not fix the issue then replace it with this guide.
