Will not respond or does not indicate any sign of powering up.
It is a good rule of thumb to assume the device is dead if it is not starting up after several presses of the power button. The computer needing a charge is most likely the reasoning behind a startup failure. To handle this problem, make sure to plug your computer charger into the computer as well as a functioning wall outlet. A light on the charger adapter will be lit up when plugged in meaning that the computer is charging. The device will typically start up almost immediately when the power button is pressed if an uncharged computer is the issue.
If your laptop turns off suddenly while you are using it and feels warm to the touch, it is a sign of overheating. The laptop should be shut off and left alone for approximately one hour as this will provided time for the device to cool down. It is a good idea to ensure the device is in a cool environment if it becomes too hot. Another cause of an overheating laptop is running too many applications at the same time. Overheating can be minimized by closing all applications on the computer that are no longer in use.
Plug in your power adapter to the computer as well as a functioning wall outlet. Ensure the charge light on the adapter is glowing. If the light will not turn on, it is a sign of a faulty power adapter. Consider purchasing a replacement power adapter. A replacement power adapted can be found here.
Plug in your laptop with an adapter (charger) that you know works. If the laptop fails to charge or will only turn on when plugged in, this is a sign of a faulty battery. Replace the battery using this guide.
The keys on your keyboard won’t respond or appear to be broken.
If the keys on your keyboard are not responding, your keyboard may be locked. It is easy to accidentally turn on the keyboard lock. Try holding the right shift key for 8 seconds to unlock it.
Try updating the drivers for your keyboard. If this does not work, try uninstalling the drivers and restarting your computer to reset the drivers. You can find out how to do this here.
If the keys will not return to its original position, then the keyboard is either dirty or a key is damaged. These will require you to take the key off and either clean it or replace it. You can find out how to remove keys here.
If the keyboard appears to be broken, such as a broken key switch, it may need to be replaced. You can find out how to do this here.
Laptop informs the user that there is no storage device detected, and the laptop may not power on to the Windows log-in page.
Restart laptop and enter the BIOS menu to ensure if the drive is being detected by the laptop. If it does not show up under the listed storage devices in the BIOS, it may need to be reconnected to the board. To do so, the laptop must be opened up, and the drive must be unscrewed from the motherboard and placed back with a more solid connection.
If the drive does not show up under the BIOS menu, it is not being detected. If the issue persists after disconnecting and reconnecting the old one, it is a sign of a faulty storage drive. To replace the storage drive, follow this guide to remove the laptop backing, then locate and replace the storage drive.
NOTE: if a new drive is installed to the laptop, it must be loaded with either a fresh copy of windows, or a copy of the old system if it is possible to recover. The windows installation tool can be found on the official Microsoft website, and can be installed onto the new drive.
Laptop does not keep any of the charge when plugged in or does not hold charge when using it.
If the device is plugged but no charge is indicated then this may be because the power adapter is not sending charge to your device. You can test this by seeing if the light on the power adapter is on or by trying it on a comparable device to see if it receives charge. If the power adapter is not sending power, then the best approach to this problem would be to purchase a new power adapter.
If the device is plugged in and it is not charging the battery, this may be due to your battery driver not reading correctly. Uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver will prompt the computer to reconnect with it and accurately show battery storage. You can find out how to do this here.
If the battery indicator shows that no charge is being received when the adapter is plugged in and the power source has been checked to be working, then this may be because of a faulty battery. If the battery is at fault the best way to fix this would be to replace the battery. You can find how to replace the battery here.
Your trackpad won’t respond or appears to be broken.
Many laptops include a function key combination that toggles the touchpad on and off. It’s relatively easy to disable the touchpad by accident, especially if you are trying to access a nearby function key combination. Try pressing the Function key and an F-key atop the keyboard to enable the touchpad.
Your touchpad may be disabled in settings. This can be taken care of by accessing the devices menu in your settings. Once in settings, the trackpad can be enabled by selecting the enable option.

If the laptop itself is not responding or if a web page/browser is having difficulty loading, it may be a sign that your laptop crashed. To fix this simply hold the power button until the computer is turned off. From this point you can simply turn the computer back on.
Drivers may be out of date and causing a potential issue. To update the drivers, click here and proceed with the following steps.
Check to see if another device has disabled touchpad (typically bluetooth related) as this may turn off your trackpad. This can be taken care of by accessing the devices menu in your settings. Once in settings, check to see if any devices are connected via bluetooth. From here, disconnect all bluetooth devices.
An external mouse may be interfering with the trackpad which can be seen in settings under the devices menu. Simply unplug the external mouse to potentially resolve the issue.
