I keep trying to select something, but the touchscreen never responds how I want.
Before you take the computer apart, try recalibrating the touchscreen. Search “Tablet PC Settings,” and select it. On the display tab, click “Calibrate.” Follow the instructions. If the touchscreen is still not calibrated correctly, try again. When you have finished calibrating the touchscreen, click “Yes” to make changes.
If this has not resolved your issue, continue reading.
If you don’t already have a copy of Windows 8 installed, you may have to purchase it. It is offered online or in disk form. To activate it, type “Activate windows” in your search, and then select it. Click “Enter key,” and type the product key that came with your copy of Windows 8. After the computer has automatically recognized the valid code, restart the computer. Then search “Control Panel” and click “Windows Update.” This will install touch and/or graphics driver updates. After this, restart the computer again.
Search “Device Manager” and select it. When on the page, expand the “Display Adapters” list by clicking the small triangle next to it. Then right click the graphics card, and select “Disable.” Click “Yes” to confirm, and then restart the computer.
If the glass that covers the display is cracked or broken, it can be very hard to use the touchscreen as well as being a hazard to your fingers. We recommend you fix this as soon as possible.

No matter what I do my computer will not make any sound.
Things such as the volume control knob for your speakers/monitor, Windows volume controls, and volume controls in sound software can all change sound volume. To change your settings, first select “Control Panel” from the menu on your computer. Click on “Hardware and Sound,” and under “Sound,” click on “Adjust System Volume.” Ensure the volume is not muted by looking at the mute buttons below the volume slider. If the button shows a small red circle, the volume is muted. If it is muted, click on the mute button to unmute.
From the “Control Panel,” click “Hardware and Sound,” and then click “Sound.” Find the type of audio connection you are using (speakers, digital output, HDMI). If you have more than one type of connection, then choose the type of connection that you prefer. Select your Playback Device in the sound window and click the button that says “Set Default.” Now, click the “Configure” button and click your speaker setup in “Audio channels.” Click the “Test” button to send sound to each speaker.
From the “Control Panel,” click “Hardware and Sound,” and then click “Sound.” The “Speakers Properties” window contains a list of color-coded connectors that corresponds to each pair of speakers, which is how you will determine which connector goes where. Make sure each speaker cable is connected to its corresponding connector on the back of the computer based on its correct color. If any connection changed, check for sound again using the steps in “Resetting Default Speakers” above.
From the “Control Panel,” click “Hardware and Sound,” and then double-click “Sound, Video and Game Controllers.” Right-click on the name of the correct audio device and select “Properties,” then click the “Driver” tab. Click “Roll Back Driver,” and then “Yes” to roll back to the previous driver. Now, test for sound.
First, check to see if the power cord is connected to the speakers and that the speakers are receiving power. Turn off power to the subwoofer and unplug the speakers before inspecting the hardware.
HP manufactures the speaker assembly as a unit, so to replace the fuse, you must replace the speaker assembly. The fuse is sealed inside the speakers, and therefore near impossible to troubleshoot. Use this as a last resort.

My computer will not work as fast as it should.
Try clicking “My Devices” at the top of the HP Support window, then select “Updates.” If the computer detects any available updates, they will show in the “Updates Available” window. Click “Check for recent updates” to verify all of the information is up to date. Click the install icon and wait for the system to update.
If you are still within your free trial of McAfee, you may use this. Otherwise, you will either have to purchase the full version of McAfee, or uninstall it, and purchase another trusted antivirus or anti-spyware software. Remove any viruses or spyware using your antivirus/anti-spyware software.
Upgrading your RAM will increase your multitasking abilities which may help your computer’s performance. Use a phillips screwdriver to remove the cover on the memory module compartment. If you need to remove the current memory to install the new memory, remove the current memory with a small tool to insure the safety of it. To install the new memory, place the gold contacts into the connector, and gently but firmly push it into place. Put the cover back on and tighten screws.

Avoid using the computer in an excessively hot environment. This may help the performance. If not, you may have a dust buildup inside the computer. You can use a compressed air can to clean out the vents from the side.
This problem may also be due to an inefficient fan.

If your hard drive is full, first try to delete any files that you no longer need. If your computer still needs more space, you may need to buy a new hard drive with larger storage. Before upgrading, backup all of your files on an external hard drive or on a cloud to make sure you don’t lose anything.

Why can’t I type anymore?
To replace the batteries, open the cover on the underside of the keyboard. This will expose the battery compartment. It requires 2 AA batteries. Install the batteries as the instructions show.
To remove a stuck key, use a small tool to pry the key up. Use a swab with rubbing alcohol on it to clean all surfaces on the underside of the key, and the contacting surfaces on the keyboard. Replace the key by snapping it back into place.
Try moving the keyboard closer to the receiver. It should be within one foot of the receiver to get a good connection. If this does not work, try re-syncing the keyboard connection. To do this, remove the receiver from the USB port, wait ten seconds, and then plug it back in again. A light should appear on the receiver to confirm it is working.
I just can’t get the computer to turn on!
The first thing that you should check is that the computer is fully plugged in on both sides of the power cord. Check the connection at the back of the computer, and then check that the plug is fully into the wall.
Try plugging the computer into a different outlet to double check.
If the power cord shows any damage due to wear and tear, it might be time to get a replacement cord. Before buying a new cord, make sure to check all other available options down below.
A faulty motherboard can cause lots of problems. Be careful of this, it is hard to diagnose a faulty motherboard, and replacements are very expensive. If the LEDs on the motherboard are not illuminating, that can be a sign of a faulty motherboard. We recommend double-checking with a licensed PC repair technician before going ahead with this fix.
