The laptop is abnormally hot.

Extraneous use of the laptop during charging will cause the laptop to become increasingly hot due to the amount of processes. Try not using the laptop to see if it naturally cools. Otherwise try shutting it down until the charge is fulfilled. If this problem persists, consider replacing the cooling system.

If too many tabs are left open in browsers or too many programs are being run at once, the laptop may begin to overheat. Try closing unnecessary tabs or background programs through the task manager of the laptop to attempt to cool it.

Dust in the cooling system may cause the computer to overheat. Try using a compressed air duster to remove dust from the cooling system.

Try moving the device to a cooler area to check if the heat is coming from an external source than the laptop. If this problem persists and it is determined that the heat is from the laptop itself, consider replacing the cooling system (See our Fan Replacement Guide).

The battery dies abnormally fast.

If too many tabs are left open in browsers or too many programs are being run at once, the battery life will be significantly affected. Try closing unnecessary tabs or background programs through the task manager of the laptop to conserve battery.

Consistently maintaining a high brightness can cause the battery to die quicker than expected. Try dimming the screen if a high brightness level is not needed to see in the environment to conserve battery.

Over time the battery loses capability of holding the maximum amount of charge it originally could, known as the battery health. Since this diminishes according to how many times it has been charged, a laptop that has been charged consistently over a long time will have a worse battery life than a factory new product. Consider replacing the battery if this problem persists (See our Battery Replacement Guide).

Completely turning the laptop off ends the laptop’s background processes while sleep mode maintains many of the program’s functions, therefore using the battery of the laptop and depleting it.

The laptop’s battery life will decrease if consistently left in extreme heat or cold. If this happens, the battery will hold significantly less charge and a battery replacement could be considered to fix the issue (See our Battery Replacement Guide).

Using the speakers of the laptop can cause the laptop battery to drain quicker than usual. No harm will be done to the battery long-term, but the battery life while the audio is being played will cause the battery to drain.

This may be a software error that could be fixed by performing a power reset on the laptop. Before you restart, turn the device off and unplug all external devices from the laptop. Then, remove the battery and power adapter. After they are removed, hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to drain any residual power and reinsert the battery and power adapter. Finally, turn the device back on.

Plug in an external mouse to navigate to hp.com/drivers. Use this site for instructions on how to install the latest drivers for the touch pad.
