The device will not turn on no matter what
With this computer it has a few common issues with the battery. It could be a damaged battery, the way you can tell most of the time is if you can check the bottom of the laptop and see a bump where the battery is placed it’s usually a damaged battery.
The solution for a damaged battery is simply replacing it with a new one. Make sure the battery is compatible with the HP Envy before buying. We have the required battery in our Model Specifications Page.
An issue can also be the power cable; it could have a problem charging the laptop. Your charging cable could be loose causing a weak connection between the laptop and the cable. The user can also be using the wrong voltage rating causing the cable not to work properly.
You want to start off by looking at your cable and verifying the recommended voltage rating to see if you meet the requirements of the system. If that is all set and done, verify if the cable is not damaged in any way.
The charging port could become clogged with dirt, dust, or debris. Dirt or lint can build up inside the charging port and prevent the charging cable from engaging properly with the charging contacts inside the post. The charging port can also be damaged, this could happen by Broken Pins in Port.
Start by looking at the computers charging ports to see if there is any dust or debris in there if so try to clean them as best as possible. If you see broken pins; you may need to replace the port with a new one. However, before doing anything check with the laptop manufacturer for the recommended port.
The device is getting really hot, sometimes even causing the computer to run slow
The computer starts to make loud noises when the fan is not working. Some fans may make loud noises in general when it has problems with the high temperature and dust clutter.
The solution to loud fan noises is to turn the computer off, take out the charger and take away the back cover, unscrewing the battery. So with the battery out and no charger push the power button for 40 seconds and then release; then take out the connector to the fan from the motherboard and put it back; then screw the battery and back cover back. The fan should now be working and the fan should be acting normally.
The computer will overheat if it is cluttered with dust. The dust clutter will make fans not work properly and cause the computer to overheat.
The solution for removing the dust in the laptop is to shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Removing dust and lint by cleaning vents
Playing or using your laptop while using the computer will cause the battery to overheat and can cause more problems with overheating.
The solution to this problem is simple, just turn off your computer and let it cool down for an hour.
The device keeps turning off out of nowhere while you are using it
The graphics card has gone bad and will not display anything on your screen at all as the computer is still on. This can be caused by a bad chip or chip failure.
The solution for this problem is to replace the the motherboard since it has an integrated graphics card.
It is also possible that your computer is overheating. It can be caused by a fan not working or even your computer is filled with dust to where the computer can’t throw out the excess heat
The solution to this problem is if the fan is not working at all make sure its plugged in. The fan is plugged in and still not working, you are going to need to replace the fan. If the fan is working then open up the computer and clean it with a can of compressed air.
The power supply is inadequate or poorly manufactured. This can cause your computer to turn off randomly.
The solution to this problem is to replace the power supply. We have the required power supply in our Model Specifications page.
The battery is probably out of power. You will have to plug in the power cord in a wall outlet and plug in the other end of the power cord into the computer. If this doesn’t work most likely your battery is just dead and needs to be replaced.
The solution to this problem would be plugging the power cord into the computer, if it still doesn’t work you are going to need to replace the power cord for the computer.
The device is making a really loud buzzing, screeching, clanking noise
The computer suddenly started making loud noises, one of the main things that makes the computer loud is when dust damages your computer. Whenever it starts to do this it’s usually the fan or it’s overheating.
The solution to this problem would be a new cooling fan, Clean the fan vents, open the computer up and replace the old cooling fan. Once you reassemble the computer, you then update the BIOS to help bring down the internal temperature.
The computer can also cause loud sounds due to the hard drive. The hard drives make loud noises when they are booting up and are storing information. However if your hard drive is making a buzzing noise or something similar it is possible it is failing.
The solution to your hard drive buzzing is that you need to replace it with a new hard drive. We would start by turning the computer over and opening it up and removing the hard drive and replacing it by screwing in the new one.
