The device will not charge or indicate that it is charging.
Make sure the power cable is securely connected to the laptop, and the charging light is on. If the light won’t turn on, try taking the charger out of the outlet and replugging it in. If no success, try finding a different outlet.
Replace power cable. If the new power cable works, that means you have a defective charging cable. Purchase a new power cable before moving on.
If the battery will only work when plugged into a charger, or won’t turn on at all, the battery is most likely defective and needs to be replaced. You can find a step by step guide for replacing your battery here [insert link].
My device is overheating quickly.
Dust and Debris may had build up over time inside your fan. You would NOT have to open the laptop.
On the bottom of the HP laptop, you should see vents. Buy/use a canned air spray, followed as directed and remove the dust,. Now that you have removed the dust. Set the laptop upright on a hard surface and sit and listen if you hear if the fan is making a strange noise, if not, you did it!
(Note: Trying closing applications once you are done with them.)
You may be out-of-date with your graphic driver or BIOS. Luckily on HP laptops you could update that internally. Search for “Windows Update Settings” Check if there any updates, if you have Windows 10, update accordingly, Window 7 or 8, follow the directions for Install Updates. Restart your computer.
If your driver is up to date, you may need to update the BIOS (Basic Input, Basic Output) system. On your HP device look for HP Software and Drivers Downloads and search “BIOS” if you see “update” click on and follow the directions as followed. ++https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c0…
They are stuck and won’t type.
Clean the keyboard using rubbing alcohol and a butter knife. Make sure you unplug any connected core from your device. (charger, USB, headphones, etc.) You will pop off the key(s) that is stuck and clean both the key and the mechanism underneath. Use a Q-Tip with rubbing alcohol to clean the area of debris. Wait 30 seconds until it’s dry and then pop it back in the slot of the corresponding keys.
If you are struggling with the keys, not sensing your touch. It could be a result of a faulty keyboard. You can replace this by getting a new keyboard and following the instructions that are prompted on the iFixit page [link it to our product fixing page].
The trackpad is unresponsive to touch
Reset the computer by turning off the computer. Disconnect all external devices (USB storage devices, printers, etc). Remove the battery from the battery compartment. With the battery out of the computer and the power off - press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain the charge. After holding down the power button, put the battery back into the computer and turn it on. The computer should start up as normal or a startup menu could open.
