When pressing the power button, the computer does not power on.
Ensure the power adapter is plugged into an outlet and connected to the laptop. If the laptop only powers on when the adapter is connected despite of charging time, then the battery is faulty. Access the battery using this guide.
If the laptop does not power on even when the power adapter (charger) is connected, then the cause may be a faulty power adapter. Replace the power adapter.
Computer speed is reduced. Program startup, web page loading is slowed.
Open the task manager, show more details, and open the performance tab. The CPU and Memory sections show the laptop’s usage for each resource. If your CPU or Memory usage is high (80% - 100%) under normal operation, open the processes tab. End resource intensive tasks under the apps section that you are not currently using. Do not end programs from the Windows processes section.
When running the computer under normal operation, start the task manager. Show more details, and open performance tab. Observe the memory section, which shows how much memory is being used. If the amount of memory being used is high (80-100%) under normal use, consider adding or upgrading your RAM. The HP Pavilion 15-n232nr has 4GB of RAM standard. This was the industry norm at the time of the laptop’s release. The laptop contains an extra RAM slot to allow for RAM addition. Access the RAM slots with this guide.
When the computer turns on, it does not boot the operating system and immediately crashes.
If your computer crashes during normal or memory intensive tasks,a blue screen with white text flashing may appear. This means you have faulty or not enough RAM. If the user is running a memory intensive program, the laptop may automatically crash. Access the RAM slots with this guide.
The operating system may not be loading properly due to errors in the hard drive. Use the operating system DVD for the version you have, and boot the computer to it. If the operating system still does not load properly and still has issues, then you may need to replace the hard drive.
The computer will not read any CD’s or DVD’s.
Ensure the CD/DVD is not damaged. The optical drive should be slightly audible when reading a CD/DVD. If the CD/DVD is unable to be read, the optical drive may be defective and must be replaced.
Computer will get too hot during normal operation and may randomly shutdown.
If your computer reports an error about the fan, or you are unable to hear it or feel air flowing out of the vent, then the fan may have excess dust. Use a compressed air duster to clear the debris from the fan as much as possible.
If the fan still does not work after using compressed air to clear dust from the fan, then the fan may be defective. Access the cooling fan with this guide.
